People have no right to treat these dogs so brutally. When will people ever learn to treat animals with the respect and compassion which they deserve.

The treatment of Spanish hunting dogs – the galgos and the podencos is truly the shame of Spain.

Surely the Spanish government can legislate for more humane treatment of these hounds and enforce penalties when the laws are flouted.

Spain can do better than this.

the illtreatment of this most wonderful creatures is criminal and i will have nothing to do with spaiin as a holiday spot or even will avoid buying any products that have come from spain. until the laws have been changed and enforced to protect these most wonderful creatures.

I will ensure that I spread the word about the terrible way these creatures of God are treated by a supposedly Catholic nation and I will do all I can to prevent people I know travelling to Spain as tourists until something is done to stop this.
All living things deserve to be live without fear and suffering and all those who inflict such things onto defenceless creatures should suffer the same fate 4 fold!
This needs to stop!!!

Spain considers itself a civilised country? A civilised country would never let such barbaric suffering and cruelty to exist.

The Spanish Government MUST prosecute the people who commit these atrocities on innocent hounds, the sentences must be comesurate with the suffering these ‘people’ cause the Galgos and other hounds in Spain.

The Spanish Government MUST help fund the rescues that do their best to assist and rehabilitate the lucky few.

How many more petitions? How much more outrage before something is done?

Shame on Spain for the total lack of animal welfare. Being part of the Eurpean Community requires respect for animals.
The endless number of abondened and mistreated animals tell their on sad story. The countless numbers of animal welfare org. working their fingers to the bones while trying to help those who suffer in silence tell their desperate story.
Spain, your immediate action is called upon. Shut the perreras, hold animal abusers responsible, listen to the voices of so many people who is only too aware of the sad situation your country is in regarding the animals.

My comments are thus. Stop the insurabel cruelty to animals all over spain. Take away the S and you are left with pain wich is what you subject these poor defenceless sighthounds to every day of their short fearfull lives if you can call it that. I would say that for those poor neclected sighthounds it is hell on earth. How long are you going to let them suffer. Stop importing greyhounds from Ireland since you can´tgive your own national breeds a decent and compasionat life. Stop the overbreeding and culling of galgoes and podengoes after the hunting season. I will never set foot in your country as long as you treat life with such contempt. Life is sacred even to catholics why is that so hard for you to understand have you ever heard of “Caritas” latin for compassion.Remember a nation is judged by the way it treats its animals.I will not buy your products or support you in any way before you treat all animals with compassion and dignity things they should have from birth. I think Spain should be ashamed of the treatment of these dogs and do something about it!

What happens in Spain is everybody’s concern. Maybe the Spaniards will understand this when the consequences of their behaviour starts to hit their wallets. We shall keep spreading the word about what really happens to defenceless animals in Spain, and urging people not to make Spain a holiday destination.

It is obscene how a country with such low morals concerning animal well-being can be a part of the EU. This is 2008 – today´s people need to realize animals are living, feeling creatures just like humans, they are sincere, loyal and should be treated with respect. Forget apocalypse – Ignorance is what will destroy this planet eventually.

It NEVER stops, the brutality of humans. The shame of being one of this species takes my breath away, and words of disgust, dismay and horror are insufficient.
Shame on any ‘civilised’ nation who allow such insane torture (Britain included). May there be a hell, and may they rot in it – forever!

I don’t think that it never stop, because in Spain is lots of humans who are doing that to dogs every second. But if in Spain comes Prevention of Cruelty Animal Act, they will gonna pay that horrible thing, and then I think, that it would stop the horrible cruelty to animals!!!

We’ve suceeded in banning hunting with dogs in the UK … hopefully other EU countries will follow our lead, and hence all the despicable activities which are associated with this barbaric pastime (including the ritualistic torturing of galgos) will cease. Cruelty isn’t clever.

As I used to be a travel agent I think one of the previous comments is valid, hit the people where it hurts them for a change-in their pockets.Boycott tourism in Spain & their Islands, why support their economy.Money talks very loudly at times.
